Every year, the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) holds a workshop for visual journalists looking to hone their craft. When they asked me if I could come up with a design that could be tweaked each year depending on the theme, I offered them an annually renewable concept based on the adventure pulps of the 1950s. I created a custom type treatment and used Photoshop to composite various stock paintings into a seamless whole. I’ve done three so far, and I’m about to pitch a fourth concept for 2024.
