This design system won the 2011 Peak Award for Corporate Identity from the Colorado American Marketing Association. Level 3 Communications needed a new design system for their brand that would symbolize network speed and movement. They also needed a designer-friendly way of unifying a collection of disparate brochures and one-sheets. I created a design system that used copy-pastable “stripe stacks” that evoked motion blur in an abstract way, with a choice of several colors and sizes. Partial motion blurs were also employed within photographic backgrounds to heighten the effect. After honing the system, I wrote the rules into Level 3’s Brand Guidelines document so that any designer could move forward with the same system.
